UN analyzes global strategy to end tuberculosis

United Nations, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Global efforts to end tuberculosis will bring together representatives from over a hundred countries at the UN headquarters, in the second High Level Meeting on the fight against the epidemic.

The meeting seeks to promote science, financing and innovation and its benefits in order to urgently put an end to the disease, which has affected humanity for decades, represents a significant cause of mortality worldwide and hits developing countries disproportionately.

In 2021 alone, 10.6 million people fell ill with tuberculosis, while approximately 1.6 million died from it.

International organizations estimate that a quarter of the world’s population has contracted the disease.

In the opinion of the UN, the epidemic continues to be a critical challenge in all regions with reach in all countries on the planet.

Millions of people with tuberculosis lack quality care, including access to affordable diagnostic tests and treatments, especially in developing countries.

The meeting will seek consensus to adopt the draft political declaration with the commitment to implement a series of measures that will quickly reverse this situation.
