In the “A Primera Hora” radio programme from Emisoras Unidas, the minister pointed out that the rise in accidentss entering into health institutions has been a byproduct of the aforementioned incidents. Such information has been verified from the exchange with their directors.
Coma stressed that the accidents occur everywhere, in the capital, in departmental and regional hospitals; indeed, the majority of polytraumatized patients come from motorcycle accidents.
“That fact has the effect of saturating services due to the use of long-stay hospital beds,” the minister argued, adding the high cost of care, which puts pressure on budgets.
The Traffic Department of the General Directorate of the National Civil Police has warned that from January to August 2023 it recorded 3,465 motorcycle accidents. Data from the National Traffic Safety Observatory indicated that of that figure, resulted 702 deaths and 3,105 injured.
