Emblematic site to host French monument to victims of slavery

Paris, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) The emblematic Parisian site The Trocadero Gardens was selected to host the national monument to the victims of slavery, the French Ministry of Overseas announced today. Famous and popular for its views and its proximity to the Eiffel Tower, the site will pay tribute to human beings kidnapped from their native Africa and their descendants, struck by a scourge abolished in France in 1848.

The architectural work will remember four million slaves of the former French colonies and generally all the victims who suffered that condition in the world, as underlined by the

the French Ministry of the Overseas, which is working together with the Mayor’s Office of Paris.

The next step will be the launching of a bidding process to attribute the design of the monument to artists and landscape designers.

The tribute is expected to reflect the names of 200,000 slaves freed in 1848 in Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guyana and the island of La Reunion.
