The opening ceremony of the now traditional meeting was held at the Mijail Lomonosov Moscow State University and was chaired by Cuba´s Deputy Higher Education Minister Reynaldo Velazquez, whereas on Russian side was Dmitri Afanasiev, the diplomat highlighted.
Meanwhile, the Rector of Lomonosov, scholar Victor Sadovnichy, pointed out that this event will contribute to strengthening the already close academic and scientific ties between the higher education institutions of both countries.
“Priority areas are chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, astrophysics, protection of the environment and marine ecosystems, agricultural sciences, biology, medicine and nuclear technology,” the scholar detailed.
During the two-day meeting, it was disclosed that a joint lab equipped with advanced computer technologies was opened, and around 100 interuniversity cooperation agreements were reached.
Likewise, experts signed 12 bilateral and multilateral cooperation deals between Russian and Cuban universities.
Joint centers and departments have been created. The Lomonosov Center was opened at the University of Havana and the Jose Marti Office operates at the University of Moscow. All those are noteworthy mechanisms and drivers of Russian-Cuban educational and scientific cooperation.
