We request that Niger be ordered to immediately restore constitutional order by handing over power to President Bazzoum, Diagne told reporters at his office in Dakar.
The lawsuit was filed to the ECOWAS court on Monday and is based on “the arbitrary arrest and violation of the freedom of movement of President Bazoum, his wife Haziza and son Salem, detained on July 26,” the lawyer said.
Diagne added that his clients were “victims of intolerable and serious human rights violations” and argued that Gen. Abdourahamane Tiani, head of the coup that deposed the Nigerien president, “has no legal authority to make arrests.”
