Russian peacekeepers mediated cease-fire in Nagorno Karabakh

Moscow, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) With the mediation of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh reached an agreement with the Azerbaijani side for the cessation of hostilities, the Russian Defense Ministry reported today.

“The implementation of these agreements will be carried out in coordination with the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces,” the military body said.

In turn, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian stated that the Armenian authorities did not take part in the negotiations between the representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan.

During this day, the Russian military evacuated more than two thousand civilians from that zone in conflict, “they were provided with temporary accommodation places and doctors are providing assistance to the wounded”, the statement added.

On September 19, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced the launching of an anti-terrorist operation in Nagorno-Karabakh to achieve the withdrawal of Armenian troops from that territory.

In turn, the Armenian authorities deny the presence of their troops in the region and branded the operation as an aggression against the people.

In 2022, Yerevan and Baku began to discuss the signing of a future peace agreement, with the mediation of Russia, the United States and the European Union.
