“In connection with the escalation of the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, we urge the parties to end the bloodshed, cease hostilities and eliminate civilian casualties,” indicates the statement published this Wednesday on the official website of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation.
According to the note, Russian peacekeepers deployed in the region provide aid and medical assistance to civilians and also participate in evacuation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also called for compliance with the trilateral agreements reached in 2020-2022, which detail all the steps for a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
The statement also highlighted the need to end the conflict and doing everything possible to guarantee the rights and security of the population in the region.
On September 19th, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan announced the start of an “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh to achieve “the withdrawal of Armenian troops” from the territory. Armenian authorities denied the presence of their troops in the region and called the operation an “aggression” against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan denounced systematic attacks by Armenia against its army positions, the mining of resources that belong to Azerbaijan, and the increase in the number of trenches and defensive positions in the area.
