In a meeting with his Mexican counterpart, Alicia Barcena, the head of Palestinian diplomacy detailed the ongoing Israeli violations, including assassinations, house demolitions, land confiscations and forced displacements of people.
According to an official statement, al Maliki highlighted the resistance of his people and called on Mexico to upgrade its diplomatic representation in Palestine to the level of an embassy.
Barcena highlighted the deep bilateral relations and reaffirmed her country’s support for the Palestinians and their struggle for their legitimate rights, the statement said.
During a meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, al-Maliki urged Canada to be consistent with its defense of human rights in other latitudes.
Quoted by the official Wafa news agency, the official called on Ottawa to re-evaluate its voting pattern on international resolutions linked to the Palestinian issue ‘to be consistent with its principles of supporting human rights’.
The minister also met separately with his counterparts from Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Nicaragua.
