Marrero cited Cuba´s Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal on X social media to recall that on September 19, 2005 Fidel Castro founded that Medical Brigade, which has saved thousands of lives in several continents.
“Hundreds of solidarity and altruism stories have been written in the most diverse corners of the world,” Portal posted on X.
The “Henry Reeve” International Medical Brigade, made up of physicians and nurses specialized in disaster situations and serious epidemics, was set up to help New Orleans City recover from Hurricane Katrina, which left around 1,336 deaths and losses valued at USD$75 billion in the United States.
The Brigade was named after “Henry Reeve”, paying tribute to a young American native of Brooklyn, New York, who joined a Cuban group of mambises to fight for Cuba´s independence.
