The Foreign Ministry said that Cerrud will be in the country from September 19 to 23 at the invitation of Zhao Leji, president of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the country’s highest legislative body.
The visit fully demonstrates that adhering to the One China principle is an irresistible trend of the times, the aspiration of the people and the trend of the times,’ Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning said.
Parlacen recently revoked Taiwan’s permanent observer status and included the NPC in its place, which translates into the parliament’s recognition of that principle.
The Parlacen’s headquarters is in Guatemala, one of the 12 countries that still maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan instead of China.
In fact, Beijing urged the newly elected Guatemalan Government to put itself on the right side of history and develop bilateral relations based on the One China principle.
