President Díaz-Canel to extend bilateral agenda at UN

United Nations, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Monday extended his bilateral agenda at the UN by exchanging with the President of the 78th General Assembly Dennis Francis and Uganda´s Vice-President Jessica Alupo.

Taking the floor at UN, the Cuban leader condemned the impact of unilateral restrictions on the development and fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for the countries of the Global South.

Díaz-Canel described the global context as critical for developing nations, affected by “an unjust economic order that perpetuates inequalities and poverty”.

In his capacity as President of the G77+China, a bloc chaired for the first time by Cuba, Díaz-Canel recalled the top priority given by the group to the SDG Summit, with the aim of putting sustainable development back at the center of the international agenda and providing the necessary political impetus.

The group has embarked on a declaration to scale up and accelerate the implementation of innovative, transformative and ambitious concrete actions and measures to ensure the achievement of the SDGs, he said.
