Hashtag #Cuba occupies first place in X network in Colombia

Bogota, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) The hashtag #Cuba has become trending in Colombia in the X network, driven by messages from Gustavo Petro against Cuba's inclusion on a US list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

In addition, due to the recent G77+China Summit, held in Havana, Cuba, which was considered a successful meeting due to the presence of presidents and delegations from that group of southern nations and the issues discussed to boost the development of its members.

Since Saturday, #Cuba was already trending due to the Summit and on Sunday it escalated after the messages posted by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who stated that the criminal consequence of Cuba’s inclusion on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list cannot be maintained because its basis is nothing more than a lie.

Therefore, on behalf of his government, he asked the United States to remove Cuba from that spurious list.

On his profile on X, he explained that the inclusion resulted from the request made by the Government of Iván Duque (2018-2022) to the United States under the excuse that Cuba, by respecting the protocol of the talks with the ELN on the rupture of the process, considered that the peace negotiators could not be delivered as hostages, as requested by the former head of State.

“The previous agreements, signed in the form of protocols by Colombia, Cuba and Norway, were betrayed. Today my government is negotiating peace with those same free negotiators of the ELN”, the President stressed.

Petro stressed that the consequence of Duque’s betrayal of the word pledged by the Colombian Government is that today most of the medicines that need to be imported to save the lives of children cannot enter Cuba.

“It is a criminal consequence that cannot be maintained because its basis is nothing more than a lie. Innocent lives cannot continue to be lost due to the blind fundamentalism in favor of violence of a former president of Colombia,” he warned.

He added that the US Government must begin to close and heal the open wounds in history with Latin America.

“To remove Cuba from the list of countries that help terrorism is to recover the truth in our relations and the beginning of a new dialogue to overcome the problems of our common America,” the Colombian President stressed.

He pointed out that the country whose government requested to make such a dirty trick with a nation that has helped with our Peace, now in the voice of my government, requests to end this dirty trick.
