Cuba attends this meeting headed by its President Miguel Díaz-Canel, representing the G77+China, the largest and most diverse group of countries within the United Nations system. According to the agenda, Díaz-Canel will speak on behalf of the negotiating bloc on Monday during the Summit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), considered the central axis of the segment. The Cuban statesman will be the sixth speaker on Tuesday when the General Debate begins, and he will participate, on Wednesday, in the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development and the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response.

After arriving in New York on Sunday, the head of State predicted a diplomatic and political victory for the country.

In a meeting with representatives of Cuba’s Mission to the UN, Díaz-Canel announced that the delegation would continue denouncing the US blockade and the inclusion in the list of countries that allegedly support terrorism.

“I have a great commitment to work now at the UN General Assembly,” he said.

The Cuban president added that it was a complex event, although we decided the country would also achieve a diplomatic and political victory.

Díaz-Canel traveled accompanied by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and Health Minister José Ángel Portal, who will also present the experiences of Cuba and the G77+China in areas such as universal health coverage or the preparation of the Summit of the Future.

The UN High-Level Week, considered the most important annual meeting of the 193 member states of the organization, is driving a decisive effort this year towards the 2030 Agenda and the urgent need to put the 17 SDGs back on track.
