Colombian government, EMC-FARC define route for peace talks

Bogota, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) Colombian government delegations and the Central General Staff of the FARC (EMC-FARC), accompanied by the international community, are holding talks today in the town of Suarez, Cauca, to define the protocols of the peace process.

In this meeting, which began yesterday, they will make progress on issues such as the date for the installation of the talks, cease-fire and mechanisms for the protection of the civilian population, according to the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace.

We are going to announce (at the end of the meeting) the date on which the table will be set up, the beginning of the cease-fire in its different stages and measures for the protection of the civilian population and the agenda’, stated Camilo Gonzalez Posso, chief negotiator on behalf of the Government.

He explained that between Tuesday, when this meeting ends, and the date agreed for the installation of talks, ‘all the measures of preparation, consultation and pedagogy will be defined, both on the part of the Government, the Public Forces and all the structures and members of the EMC-FARC’.

We hope to define the rules of operation of the table that will be installed in different regions, in an itinerant way, he added.
