Indian diplomat considers participation in Cuba Summit a privilege

New Delhi, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) Sanjay Verma, Secretary for West, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India, described his participation in the recently concluded Summit of the G77+China in Cuba, as a privilege.

A privilege to represent MEA at the G77 Summit in the beautiful city of Havana, the Indian diplomat stressed in a publication in the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Verma stressed that the meeting in the Cuban capital highlighted India’s initiative, in its capacity as chair of the Group of Twenty (G20), to include the issues of the Global South in the discussions of that bloc.

During his speech at the G77+China Summit, the MEA official added that under India’s leadership of the G20, the bloc’s membership increased with greater representation of African territories through the inclusion of the African Union.

He pointed out that India’s Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program, with over 160 nations, is a sign of his country’s tradition of sharing its knowledge with the Global South.

Verma called for strengthening unity and solidarity within the G77 and China to defend common interests at the United Nations (UN) in the context of economic and development challenges facing their countries.

He also suggested a name change for the grouping according to its current composition and strength, since it was created in 1964 with 77 members.
