At least 1,500 women were raped in July in six sites served by the non-governmental organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), according to a report published last Thursday.
It was drawn particular attention to the increased cases at centers for displaced people in Nyiragongo and in the west of the city of Goma, both in the province of North Kivu, in the east of the DRC.
The situation is increasingly complicated, as women are forced to go out in search of firewood for cooking or to resell due to insufficient food supply, yet in these spaces they are outside the protection of the camps.
This shows the pressing need to improve the living conditions of these people, says the MSF report, which notes that for several months the displaced people around Goma have been receiving less and less aid.
