Cuba urges for peace, cooperation for the development of the South

Havana, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) Attendees at the G77+China Summit on Saturday urged for the peaceful solution of conflicts and scientific cooperation for the equitable development of the nations of the Global South.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Summit, held at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC), Nepal’s Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister Bedu Ram Bhusal stressed that developing countries must strive to master technologies and their use, and eliminate the gaps with developed nations.

This can only be achieved with the joint efforts of our nations, said Ram Bhusal on behalf of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

He pointed out that the South is showing progress in the field of technologies, and it is necessary to create its own system to develop and share knowledge and ensure control over the use of technologies.

We must increase collaboration among the countries of the South for scientific and technical development through strategies and policies in order to reduce the technological gap with developed nations, he said.

The Kingdom of Bahrain´s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani stressed the significance of a more equitable development and to promote an economic growth guaranteeing stability and prosperity, as well as the effective struggle against climate change. He stressed the relevance of promoting an international cooperation to work together on sustainable solutions for development.

The role of science, technology and innovation as essential components of development is the main theme that brings together in Havana more than a hundred heads of state, heads of government and high-level representatives of the G77+China member states.
