The meeting, convened by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, president pro tempore of the bloc, aims to strengthen the unity of the member countries besides deciding on collective and practical actions to confront the current challenges effectively.

Leaders and prominent figures from several countries have confirmed their participation in the Summit, which will be held under the theme “Current Development Challenges: Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation.”

More than 100 member States of the bloc, which account for 80 percent of the world’s population and two-thirds of the United Nations membership, will attend the Summit.

As part of the agenda, the nations expect to follow up on the Group’s historic demands, particularly the new international economic order, the reform of the global financial architecture, the rejection of unilateral coercive measures, situations of concentration of wealth or increasing poverty, and the overwhelming foreign debt weight.
