At the Summit –held at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC)- President Ortega acknowledged the spirit of unity and solidarity prevailing in this broad and decisive group of nations.
Such a conviction is contained in the Declaration which, he said, the dignitaries and representatives of delegations will surely sign at the end of the Summit.
President Ortega recalled that even though over 170 years have gone by since the independence of several nations in the region, the enemy continues to be the same one, but today with the name and aggressiveness of the United States of America.
Regarding his country, Ortega said that, like Cuba and Venezuela, it resists with stoicism and creativity of its people the U.S. attacks. “We do not live in a bed of roses”, President Ortega added.
In this context, he rejected the application of coercive laws with extraterritorial impact, which undermine the principles of the United Nations and international law.
He reaffirmed the commitment to continue strengthening the unity of the G77+China in order to reach their objectives.
The world is presently experiencing a set of issues set forth in the declaration of this Summit, for which there is no clear road map to counteract them. “We are in an unequal world with a capitalist hegemony”, Ortega stressed.
