Nicaraguan Parliament condemns US blockade against Cuba

Managua, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Assembly of Nicaragua, Gustavo Porras, on Friday condemned the blockade that the United States has maintained against Cuba, a measure extended this week by President Joe Biden.

“Once again we have learned about the aggressive, unjust and genocidal policy by the Government of the United States to maintain for one more year the criminal blockade against the people of Cuba,” Porras emphasized in a statement.

The parliamentary leader expressed his maximum support and solidarity “in the face of the unjust violations of the human rights of the Cuban people, who continue to be subjected to the US Empire.”

We denounce, repudiate and condemn this new attack, which does unjustified harm to a people who have fought for their development and freedom, he stressed.

The Nicaraguan lawmaker presented his position of respect for the sovereign equality of states, non-intervention and non-interference in their internal affairs; as well as the freedom of trade of Cuba.

“From our blessed and always free Nicaragua, we express our opposition to this imperial position that attacks the brave and heroic Cuban people in every way. Blockade no, solidarity yes,” he concluded.

On Wednesday Biden signed the prolongation, for one more year, of the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, a regulation unilaterally imposed on Cuba by Washington for more than six decades.
