As part of his opening speech, Dr. Rouhollah Dehghani Firouz Abadi claimed there are a series of common challenges for developing countries including climate change, water shortage and energy insecurity, which could find solutions in scientific research.
He assured his country is presently rolling out laws aimed at promoting and disseminating technological breakthroughs, in addition to other regulations that facilitate obtaining tax credits for innovation.
The raw natural resource sales from developing countries, such as oil, is another challenge, he said.
In this regard, the global South has no choice but to improve its position in world value chains, improve refining capacities, increase the production of higher value-added products and export other derivatives such as gasoline and gas.
He also urged for the digital economy to make nations grow and create jobs.
A successful example of this branch experienced in Iran is the companies developing shared transportation applications.
In 2022, he reported, some six million Iranian users made over 10 million trips using these services.
He then urged the G77 Summit leaders to jointly create transnational digital tools and platforms, fund research programs and provide innovation-based solutions.
Finally, he expressed his country’s full support for the final declaration of the G77+China Summit.
