Eliminate the US blockade against Cuba, G77 member states shout

Havana, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Calling for the end of the hostile and unjust blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for over 60 years resounded on Friday at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC), venue of the G77+China Summit.

African, Latin American and Asian president reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba and also expressed their gratitude for Cuba´s support and collaboration in spite of difficulties caused by Washington’s blockade.

“Being in Havana, which welcomed us with hospitality, we have the sublime opportunity to defend with one voice the need to put an immediate end to the economic blockade, for being unjust and inhuman”, Angolan President João Lourenço said.

Such a coercive policy, he assured, is contrary to the principles of trade and international cooperation as well as to the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination.

Mongolia´s President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa also claimed that the G77+China Summit should urge for the lifting of the US blockade “and thus promote Cuba´s development and prosperity”.

Concerning the unilateral measures imposed by Washington, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega expressed that his country, as well as Venezuela and Cuba, are resisting the onslaught of the imperial power with stoicism and creativity.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández, on the other hand, talked about Cuba´s resistance and also acknowledged scientific and technological breakthroughs achieved by Cuban scientists.

As to Mexican Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena, she strongly condemned the unilateral blockade and called Joe Biden´s administration to remove Cuba from its unilateral States Sponsoring Terrorism (SST) list.

He also thanked Cuba for its support in updating Mexico’s health service with over 800 medical specialists, and for sending Abdala vaccine doses to fight off Covid-19.

Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley, on the other hand, praised Cuba´s example, while stressing that Cuba is beacon for the global South thanks to its scientific and technological breakthroughs, despite a hostile blockade imposed by successive US administrations for over 60 years.
