Xu told Prensa Latina that the Group reflects the common aspiration of developing countries to move towards a joint struggle to safeguard their vital interests.
“The G77+China have made major contributions to strengthening solidarity and cooperation, promoting the establishment of a new international economic order, accelerating the economic and social development of the developing countries, and promoting South-South and North-South cooperation,” he said.
The researcher explained that although China is not a G77 member, it has always supported the organization’s fair proposals and reasonable demands.
According to the professor, this mechanism aims to express its just position to favor developing countries and promote their collective economic rights and interests.
Another objective, in his opinion, is “to increase collective negotiation within the United Nations system in the North-South dialogue on all major issues of the international economy.”
For the expert, the G77+China Summit takes on greater relevance “when the international situation is turbulent, burning issues are emerging one after another, and geopolitical conflicts are intensifying.”
Cuba convened the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G77+China, which is taking place in Havana on Friday and Saturday under the theme “Current Development Challenges: Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation.”
