According to an army statement, quoted by the AIB News Agency, some 300 extremists were repelled by the onslaught of the regular forces, after they attacked a military base.
According to the report, a second group of extremists were later bombed by helicopter gunships of military groups near Sogodin, but the number of casualties in these actions is unknown so far.
In recent times, security in the country has deteriorated further due to persistent attacks by extremist groups, including those affiliated with the Al-Qaeda terrorist network and the Islamic State, which have displaced hundreds of civilians.
Burkina Faso is also affected by internal instability caused in part by a military coup d’état in September 2022, led by the leader of the ruling military junta, Ibrahim Traoré. jg/arm/mem/ob
