South Africa welcomes Argentine Foreign Affairs Secretary

Pretoria, Sep 14 (Prensa Latina) The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Alvin Botes, receives here today the Argentinian Foreign Affairs Secretary, Pablo Anselmo Tettamanti, for political consultations.

According to a statement from the South African Foreign Ministry, the objectives of the meeting are to review bilateral relations, as well as to exchange views on cooperation on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Argentina is South Africa’s second largest trading partner in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

Economic exchange between the two countries also takes place within the framework of the SACU-Mercosur Preferential Trade Agreement.

This bilateral cooperation should be strengthened and expanded after the recent 15th Brics Summit, held in Johannesburg, when Argentina was elected as a new member of this group, which will be effective in January 2024.

At the multilateral level, the text highlights that the two nations ‘share a commitment to the values of democracy, South-South cooperation, respect for human rights, the rule of international law, peaceful conflict resolution and multilateralism’.

This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between South Africa and Argentina.
