According to the president, both nations signed the necessary protocols to diversify Venezuela’s export basket, which, until now, stands out for shipping oil to China.
In a press conference, Maduro described the visit as “successful” and “historic”, and summarized the main activities on his agenda since last Friday when he arrived in the country. He also expressed his desire for Venezuela to be the gateway to Latin America for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in order to build infrastructure and advance trade. He also emphasized Venezuela’s support for the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and other proposals from China, which he described as a sample of the multipolar and multicentric world that has been born to the detriment of the hegemonic vision of Western nations.
“Our associations are not aimed against anyone, nor are they an attempt to dominate countries, but to develop industry, agriculture, technology, to satisfy the needs of the people,” he commented.
In his opinion, China and Venezuela began a new stage of splendid ties, in which both parties have already declared “to raise the strategic partnership to all tests and at all times.”
Maduro thanked China once again for its solidarity during the difficult years “of the economic bombing against Venezuela and the unilateral sanctions,” when relations with all countries in the world were affected. “We had the support of the government and the Communist Party of China in facing the sanctions and we counted on their solidarity at the worst moment of Covid-19,” he highlighted.
China “is not an imperialist or colonialist super power, it is a super power based on the principle of peace, cooperation, and building a community with a shared future,” he said.
