In an interview published today by the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the Chancellor said the current migration crisis facing Italy could worsen in the coming months, and asserted that “we cannot be left alone”, in reference to the help expected from the European Union (EU).
“Even Europe alone is not enough to tackle such a huge problem, which affects not only almost all of Africa, but also the influx coming from the Balkan route,” Tajani said, adding that “that is why we have involved the United Nations and the G20”, among other organizations.
To address this problem “we are doing everything humanly possible” and, among other initiatives, “we have worked on a major international conference that must be the beginning of a real process of stabilization of the Sahel,” he announced.
“The ministries of Defense, of the Interior, mine, are at the service and working to face the emergency, but the instability of the sub-Saharan region, to alleviate which a great international mobilization would be necessary, is dramatic”.
