Official sources informed that members of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force of Bangladesh joined the firefighters to extinguish the fire.
In addition, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) launched rescue operations, according to the Dakha Tribune.
While firefighters were working to control the flames, traders were trying to save what little salvageable goods they had, the newspaper said.
Losses are estimated at hundreds of thousands of dollars due to the fire, which witnesses think that it was caused by a short circuit.
Police reinforcements were deployed in the area to prevent theft, provide security and facilitate the safe removal of merchandise.
