President of Sri Lanka “satisfied” with trip to Cuba for G77 Summit

Colombo, Sep 13 (Prensa Latina) The president of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, expressed his satisfaction over his trip to Cuba to participate in the Summit of the Group of 77 and China on September 15th and 16th.

Before leaving for Havana, the Sri Lankan president stated that this is his first visit to Cuba, diplomatic sources reported.

Local media highlighted Wickremesinghe’s participation in the Summit in Havana at the invitation of his counterpart Miguel Díaz-Canel, in his capacity as pro tempore president of the bloc.

The Sri Lankan head of state plans talks with his Cuban counterpart to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The press also highlighted that the G77+China Summit represents the largest intergovernmental coalition of 134 developing countries, recognized by the United Nations, which serves as a platform for Southern countries to express and promote their shared economic interests and improve their collaborative negotiation.

The media outlets confirmed the importance of the event for offering the opportunity to address contemporary challenges in the fields of science, technology and innovation, with cooperative solutions, particularly through collaboration among countries of the South.

They announced that the participants in the Summit are expected to adopt the Havana Declaration, which will outline guidelines for reforms and new approaches with the aim of improving cooperation between Southern countries in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
