The activists express ‘once again, their firm support for the Cuban Government and people in their demand for the United States to lift the criminal blockade against Cuba, now! and remove Cuba from the infamous State Sponsors of Terrorism list,’ the document delivered to Prensa Latina says.
It adds that the reasons inherent to the internationalist solidarity bequeathed by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, are unequivocal in this request from all the peoples of the world.
The text explains that although it may seem incredible, the blockade against Cuba dates back more than six decades, since it was approved by President John F. Kennedy in February 1962.
It points out that ‘this aggressive policy, as was defined by the emblematic Cuban leader Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, has no other qualification than that of genocide.’
In this regard, it notes that it seeks ‘to cause hunger and desperation, make an entire people suffer, it is simply a crime against humanity, the worst of all. It is the longest genocide in history.’
Three generations of Cubans have suffered and are suffering it.’
The Bolivian Solidarity Movement in La Paz notes that over the past six decades, the blockade has been extended, deepened and reinforced, and affects third countries.
It stresses that an example of this is 243 sanctions approved during the administration of then President Donald Trump.
It clarifies that President Joseph Biden maintains those punitive measures, a decision that overturns the policy of rapprochement and dialogue between Washington and Havana established during the Barack Obama administration.
The document states that since 1992, there has been growing support, practically unanimous today, from the international community in the United Nations General Assembly, to condemn the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against the Cuban people.
The statement recalls that from September 19 to 26, the 78th United Nations General Assembly will be held, at which once again countries from all over the world will express their support for Cuba and against the US blockade.
The document reaffirms that that ‘Cuba is not alone.’
