Ecuador’s Corporation of Exporting Guilds (CORDEX) pointed out Wednesday that 400 containers of bananas could not be exported from Puerto Bolivar, in the El Oro province, between September 9 -10, due to insecurity.
CORDEX stated that by those days, criminal gangs extorted the tugboats who had been working on a vessel causing the delay in the cargo’s departure. According to the company, 6,500 containers are exported from there every week.
The banana corporation regretted that those incidents affected the product’s quality and its competitiveness by incurring additional costs associated with unforeseen movements in the fruit’s loading.
