During the 17th High Level Joint Commission between the two nations, Maduro praised the excellent state of bilateral ties since 2001 under the guidance of Hugo Chavez.
Maduro highlighted the different stages through which the bilateral ties have gone through and in particular mentioned the difficult moment that Venezuela experienced between 2018 and 2022.
In those years “came the sanctions and unilateral coercive measures from the West against the Venezuelan economy”, during which from one day to the next we lost 99% of USD income and had to install a war economy, he commented.
He referred to the negative impact at world level of the Covid-19, which he classed as a complex stage, “in which China was by Venezuela’s side and thanks to them we had health care, medicines and vaccines to fight off the disease”.
Now we are going to a new, splendorous era of economic growth, scientific and cultural development, of joint progress as brotherly peoples, he added.
According to Maduro, both countries will sign new agreements on different issues including digital economy, tourism, high technology, agriculture, direct air connection, aerospace cooperation in the China International Station project, among others.
In addition, he announced a greater collaboration in the mining area so that Chinese companies will be part of the projects in Venezuela, “the first reserve of gold diamenate, coltan and other rare and strategic minerals”.
Venezuela’s Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, on the other hand, said this 17th commission represents the failure of those who have tried to stop cooperation and friendship between China and Venezuela.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday praised his country’s traditional friendship with the Bolivarian Republic during a meeting here with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro.
China has always viewed the development of relations with Venezuela from a strategic and long-term perspective, the president said.
Xi Jinping reiterated support “for Venezuela’s just cause of opposing external interference” and hoped to further enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
