Speaking at the fourth edition of the Angola Oil&Gas conference and exhibition, Azevedo stated Angola is presently stepping up efforts to invest on hydroelectric and photovoltaic projects as well as on converting diesel thermal power plants into natural gas units.
Azevedo gave as an example the Caraculo photovoltaic park in Namibe province (south), and also the construction of another one in Quilemba, Huila province (southeast).
In addition, the state-owned oil company Sonangol has been conducting studies for a hydrogen project and implementing a Research and Development Center in Sumbe, Cuanza Sur province (east), in order to research hydrocarbons, renewable energies and critical minerals for energy transition.
Azevedo also pointed out that in the context of decarbonization, Angola is currently fostering the use of technologies and extraction methods to mitigate oil and gas emissions.
