The news was confirmed by the headline through his account in X social media, as he posted that Chalbaud -also playwright- “passed away in his San Bernardino apartment”, in Caracas.

Villegas pointed out that Chalbaud was the longest active filmmaker in the history of world cinema, because until recently, at the age of 90, he directed some scenes of the shooting of his last film, Muñequita linda.

Villegas added that with “more than enough merits” Chalbaud is placed at the pantheon of the most distinguished sons of this Homeland, having been for decades the incarnation of the Venezuelan affirmative.

“On behalf of President @NicolasMaduro and all the workers of @minculturave I express our sorrow for his departure and condolences to family and loved ones. Honor and glory, professor!” he stressed.
