Sobyanin wins Moscow mayoral election

Moscow, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Moscow's incumbent Mayor Sergey Sobyanin won the elections for that position with 76.39 percent of the votes, the Central Electoral Commission of Russia (CEC) reported on Monday.

According to the information provided earlier on Monday after having 100 percent of the ballots were counted, it was known that his closest rival, Moscow Duma Lawmaker Leonid Ziuganov, won 8.11 percent of the ballots.

On Sunday, it was known that Sobyanin was leading the mayoral elections with more than two million votes.

Upon learning the results, the official thanked Muscovites for their support in the elections and noted that the activity they showed during the 2023 voting was the highest.

The three-day voting ended in the Russian capital on September 10 at 20:00 hours (Moscow time), with the participation of some 3.3 million people in the election of the capital’s mayor and municipal deputies.

During all this time more than 11,000 observers followed the voting process.
