The Minister of Ports, Sailing, and Sea Waters, Sarbananda Sonowal, who presides over India’s delegation to the forum, will also attend the Eastern Maritime Corridor meeting in order to launch the Chennai-Vladivostok alternate trade route.
Sonowal will meet with the Ministers of Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexey Chekunkov, and the Minister of Transportation, Vitaly Saveliev, among others, with the goal of keeping strong links and fostering cooperation between both nations, according to an official statement.
According to Sonowal, one of the topics at the talks is the possibility of the exploration of the Northern Sea Route and the establishment of a transportation hub in the Bengal Bay.
The Minister stated that his trip to Russia responds to the historic ties between India and Russia, which have reached new dimensions with the strengthening of trade.
As for the Eastern Maritime Corridor, he added that it will reduce the time of cargo transit between Russia and China, and has an immense potential in unlocking new opportunities for trade and cooperation.
He stated that the Eastern Economic Forum is a key international platform to establish and strengthen ties within the Russian and global investment communities. It also makes it possible make an integral assessment of the economic potential of Russia’s Far East, its investment opportunities and trade conditions within special areas.
