Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning responded in those terms when she was asked about the G20’s position on the conflict in Ukraine and specifically, that of China.
The diplomat emphasized that the final declaration of the summit of the leaders of that bloc, which ended in India on Sunday, was reached by the consensus of all its members.
In her opinion, the meeting in New Delhi “reaffirmed that the G20 is the main forum for international economic cooperation, not a platform to address geopolitical and security issues.”
Regarding China’s position, she repeated the need to find a political outcome through dialogue and negotiation.
“We have always believed that the key to the final settlement of the Ukraine crisis lies in abandoning the Cold War mentality, granting importance to and respecting the legitimate security concerns of all sides,” she said.
She stressed that Beijing will continue to work together with the international community to promote peace talks.
On the war in Ukraine, the final declaration of the G20 Summit pointed out that “all States should refrain from resorting to the threat or use of force for the purpose of territorial acquisition,” without being more explicit.
