On his X account, formerly Twitter, the head of government extolled the social workers’ sacrifice and consecration with their humanitarian work, as a force created by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
At a recent meeting between Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and members of the Government, the strengthening of this contingent and its enlargement to 10,000 members in the next two years was announced.
In September 2022 and in May 2023, Díaz-Canel met with a broad representation of that force, most of whom started when they were very young, and today they lead People’s Councils (electoral demarcation), and some are lawmakers at the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament).
The purpose of these exchanges of ideas “is to strengthen this army with a humanist vocation, in order to revitalize social programs and projects that benefit the most vulnerable people in the communities, Díaz-Canel said in May.
