National Ballet of Cuba receives standing ovation in Dom. Rep.

Santo Domingo, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) An enthusiastic audience gave a standing ovation to the dancers of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) at the National Theater, where three ballet stars, Viengsay Valdés, Anette Delgado, and Dany Hernández, performed Swan Lake in this capital on Saturday.

Applause filled the auditorium where the three BNC dancers performed as part of a tour that leading figures of the company are taking to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the BNC, founded by Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, and Fernando and Alberto Alonso brothers.

Valdés, Delgado, and Hernández showed a class of style, sensitivity, and talent in a unique performance after 15 years of absence by company from the Dominican Republic.

Valdés, who is also the director of the BNC, described this performance in Santo Domingo as splendid and exceptional.

She made this reflection to Prensa Latina a few minutes after the curtains closed at the Eduardo Brito National Theater, and added that almost all dancers, primarily young dancers, made their debut in Swan Lake. She also thanked the organizers and the audience.

Valdés played Princess Odette, Delgado was the evil Odile and Hernández was in the role of Prince Siegfried.

The BNC enchanted audiences with the Cuban version of Swan Lake by Alicia Alonso (1920-2019), one of the most prominent figures in the history of dance, who based her work on the original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
