According to the plan, the area of arable land in the country amounts to four million 563 thousand hectares, of which 2,094,000 are in areas under government control and the rest in regions controlled by terrorist and separatist groups.
Also, more than 1.5 million hectares will be dedicated to wheat, 105,000 to legumes and 1,432,000 hectares will be planted with barley.
It is also planned to expand the cultivation of legumes and almost 85,000 hectares will be planted with chickpeas, 20,000 with broad beans, 5,000 with peas and 11,000 hectares with lentils.
The plan for fodder crops amounts to 100,000 hectares of yellow corn. Government authorities took measures to boost the planting and production of wheat and other cereals and to support farmers.
Before the war in 2011, the nation produced sufficient quantities of wheat, barley and cotton for self-consumption and export; however, production was reduced due to the departure of hundreds of thousands of hectares from the plan because they were in areas occupied by terrorists.
