Sudanese belligerent concludes visit to Qatar

Doha, Sep 8 (Prensa Latina) The president of Sudan's Sovereign Transitional Council (CST), General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, ended a visit by meeting with the emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to an official communiqué today.

This meeting between the Qatari monarch and his guest, who has been fighting since April 15 with his former ally turned into a mortal enemy, the warlord Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), was focused on the latest developments and the challenges facing Sudan.

Shortly before the CST chairman’s departure to an unknown destination, the official media in Khartoum broadcast an official decree disbanding the RSF.

The CST chairman also visited Egypt and South Sudan, whose presidents, Abdel Fattah el Sisi and Salva Kiir, offered to mediate in the conflict, whose root cause is al Burhan’s demand that the RSF be absorbed by the army along with its weapons.

Besides killing about five thousand people, according to conservative estimates, the struggle for power between the two opponents led to an exodus of about five million human beings, about one fifth of whom sought refuge in neighboring countries.
