It can vote, repeatedly, resolutions proposed by the right and the extreme right to condemn Cuba, but it says it cannot deliberate on our initiative for European companies to work with Cuba without fear of US sanctions, the first vice-president of the organization, Miguel Quintero, stressed.

In the weekly publication La lettre électronique Hebdo of Cubacoopération, which has more than 10,000 subscribers in France, he warned that this position will not discourage actions to reject the economic, commercial and financial blockade or international solidarity with the people of Cuba.

In this regard, Quintero said that CubaCoop will host a forum this month to address new concrete proposals to support Cuba, in the context of the Fête de l’Humanité, a traditional political-cultural festival scheduled for September 15-17 the Paris Region.

Last year, at the event, the association, together with other groups from Spain, Italy and Sweden, submitted a petition for the European Parliament to take a stance against the US blockade and its extraterritorial nature, which is an attack on companies, banks and citizens of the old continent.

We submitted the initiative in January, which was subsequently declared admissible (June); however, we did not see any action in this regard, and after our complaint, it was published, but without opening it to the public, the first vice-president of CubaCoop noted.

According to Quintero, after a new interpellation, the European Parliament responded that the Petitions Committee decided to close the proposal, “because the European Parliament had already discussed the matter extensively.”
