Local authorities confirmed the alerts were in the Sucre theater and in the Hospital del Día, of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), while the personnel of the Intervention and Rescue Group carried out sweeps in the two places and the patients who were in the emergency area of the hospital were evacuated.
Thursday’s alert occurred one day after a bomb threat at the headquarters of Comunica EP, where the country’s public media operates.
After a two-hour inspection, the Police ruled out the presence of any explosive device.
Last week, car bomb blasts in Quito and in other cities of the country set off alarms in the South American nation, events that the Government has associated to the actions of organized crime to sow fear among the population.
