The UN agency detailed that with the new cut, ten million people will need WFP assistance in Afghanistan. The organization will be only able to provide emergency assistance to three million persons per month, in the future.
Amid the already worrying levels of hunger and malnutrition, we are obliged to choose between the hungry and the starving, leaving millions of families scrambling for their next meal,” Hsiao-Wei Lee, WFP’s Country Director and Representative in Afghanistan, stated.
With the few resources we have left, we cannot serve all Afghans staggering on the edge of absolute misery ,” he added.
WFP stated that it needs one billion dollars in the next six months to feed 21 million Afghans with lifesaving food and nutrition assistance.
