Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba paid tribute to Fidel Castro

Santiago de Cuba, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) The Vietnamese ambassador to Cuba, Le Thanh Tung, today paid tribute to the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, before the monolith that keeps his ashes in the patrimonial cemetery of Santa Ifigenia .

Coinciding with the 78th Anniversary of the Vietnam Declaration of Independence, the diplomat stressed that every time he comes to this city and this sacred place, he will pay homage, admiration and love to the National Hero, José Martí, and Fidel Castro. ¨We always feel very moved and we leave here strengthening our solidarity between both countries¨.

The Vietnamese ambassador was accompanied by the member of the Central Committee of the Party and first Secretary in the province, José Ramón Monteagudo Ruíz, as well as Governor Beatriz Johnson Urrutia.

In the crypt where Martí’s remains rest, the Vietnamese ambassador received an exhaustive explanation about the life and work of the hero, as well as the characteristics of the site. In addition, he went to the funeral monuments of the Father of the Nation, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, and the Mother of Cubans, Mariana Grajales.

“This visit takes place when various activities are being held in our two countries to commemorate the very special events in the ties of solidarity, brotherhood, comprehensive cooperation and full trust that unite our two Parties”, the diplomat highlighted.

He also recalled that this year marks the 50th anniversary of Fidel’s first visit to Vietnam (September 12-17, 1973), the first and only foreign leader to visit the recently liberated area of South Vietnam.

We also celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the creation of the Cuban Committee of Solidarity with South Vietnam by direct order of Fidel. The bonds of brotherhood between our two parties and states were established and guided by our two historical leaders and have been strengthened by successive generations of leaders.

Cuba and Vietnam are like brothers of the same family, as Ho Chi Ming said, he recalled.

During his stay in Santiago de Cuba, Le Thanh Tung will attend the July 26 Museum, scene of the Assault on the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953, the Mausoleum for the Heroes and Martyrs of the Second Eastern Front Frank País García, the school for children with special educational needs Friendship Cuba-Vietnam and will exchange with local authorities of the Communist Party of Cuba and the Government.
