On X, formerly Twitter, the Cuban Foreign Ministry posted that the event would be a broad and diverse space to agree on South-South cooperation strategies.
Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Brazil), Alberto Fernández (Argentina), Ranil Wickremesinghe (Sri Lanka), Filipe Jacinto Nyusi (Mozambique), and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have also confirmed their attendance to the Summit.
The meeting, convened by Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who is also the bloc’s president pro tempore, will take place on September 15 and 16, make it possible to strengthen the unity of the member countries and decide on collective and practical actions to face the current challenges effectively.
With 134 member states, the G-77 plus China account for 80 percent of the world’s population and more than two-thirds of the United Nations membership.
Since January this year, Cuba has assumed, for the first time, the presidency pro tempore of the group with the commitment to promote the common interests of the South.
