As explained by the site www.radio26.cu, in this second edition of the event, more than 320 international swimmers will participate, who together with Cuban competitors, will compete for prizes in the different distances established in the contest.

The joust, to be held in the beach areas surrounding the Los Delfines and Starfish hotels, will have competitions in distances of 750, 1500 and 3000 meters on Saturday, September 16, in which different age categories for both sexes will participate, with special prominence for the master’s degree.

The site also explains that on Sunday the 17th there will be competitions in five and 10 kilometers with athletes from the elite category of nations such as Mexico, Colombia, Spain, the Dominican Republic and members of the Cuban swimming pre-selection.

Under the joint sponsorship of the Mexican company Gran Retto, the travel agency Cubatur, Cubadeportes and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation of Cuba, the event is aimed at reflecting the potential of the largest of the Antilles for the sake of a possible insertion for the years 2024 or 2025 in the open water circuit of the Caribbean.

The first edition of the Gran Retto of Open Waters took place on September 17 and 18, 2022 with the participation of more than 150 athletes and in the words of the Gran Retto brand director Luis Mario Villareal, the fight was successful and attractive, for which reason even better results are aspired to in this second edition.
