El Salvador commits to sustainable tourism

San Salvador, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador is committed to sustainable tourism that considers the relationship of human beings with the environment, Vice President of the Republic Félix Ulloa said today.

The senior official affirmed this is the correct bet, while he participated in the launching of the Ocean Breeze hotel project, an activity that was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez; the head of Environment and Natural Resources (Marn), Fernando López, and the president of the Ocean Breeze Project, Marco Zablah.

Ulloa argued that the tourism commitment is strategic for the country, since this industry contributes 10 percent of the Gross Domestic Product and is one of the most important lines for the generation of currency for our economy, for which we congratulate ourselves on this investment, pointed out.

For her part, the head of Tourism highlighted the project located in the Mizata Canton, in the Department of La Libertad, which includes a hotel, water park, shopping center, four apartment towers, 24 residences and six bungalows, which will provide direct employment to 200 people plus other benefits for the surrounding communities.

Until August this year, the country received 2.2 million visitors, equivalent to more than 2,100 million dollars in foreign currency, and according to projections, we will be generating close to 300,000 direct and indirect jobs, Valdez asserted.

We also saw a 25 percent increase this year compared to 2019. Most of them enter by air and have a stay of over 12 days with an average cost of $195 or more, especially those who come from the United States, who represent more than 50 percent, followed by Guatemala and Honduras, he specified.

Meanwhile, the minister of Marn said that there is support for these sustainable and sustainable projects that generate value for shareholders and the people.
