The date was initially announced by the UOL portal and it was confirmed by the GloboNews television station.
The surgery will be performed by doctors from the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital who have been accompanying the former trade unionist in recent months.
The procedure will be carried out in Brasilia, because the doctors recommended that Lula should not travel in the days following the operation.
For years, Lula has been suffering from osteoarthritis of the hip.
According to the G1 portal, the need for surgery was previously validated by the Planalto Palace, the seat of the Executive Power.
The source pointed out that the founder of the Workers’ Party would undergo a “scheduled surgery, nothing urgent.”
