Removing Cuba from terrorist countries’ list is a priority in US (+Photo)

Washington, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) Removing Cuba from the list of countries sponsors of terrorism is one of the priorities that the solidarity network in the United States is currently focusing on, activist Calla Walsh affirmed.

This measure exacerbates the devastating effects of the economic blockade against Cuba, Walsh, co-chair of the National Network on Cuba (NNOC), told Prensa Latina in this capital.

Former President Donald Trump ordered the unjust and illegal inclusion of Cuba in this unilateral list a few days before ending his term in January 2021, and he did it “to punish and stifle the Cuban people,” she said.

Walsh stressed that despite those measures, President Joe Biden “has maintained it” when “Cuba is not a state sponsor of terrorism. Cuba has been a victim of the United States.”

That is why “we are pushing to remove Cuba from the list,” she said and recalled that a campaign is underway to collect more than a million signatures from people worldwide who oppose the blockade.

The co-chair of the NNOC talked to this news agency before an evening of Cuban cinema held in Washington DC on Thursday evening to raise funds to purchase medicines to send to Cuba.

Miami (Florida), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), Providence (Rhode Island), Charlottesville (Virginia), Nashville (Tennessee), and Austin (Texas) planned similar initiatives.

Cuba was removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism in 2015 during the last stage of Barack Obama’s administration (2009-2017). Trump reinstated it as one of his last actions in office and in line with the maximum pressure policy he implemented on Cuba.
